Sunday Photos: What The Roadrunner Saw
I took a lot of pictures of last week’s Hill Country snow, but most of them were just documenting a rare event. I thought this one had a little more going for it.

The view helps explain the roadrunner’s expression in Friday’s photos.

I’ve been bouncing back and forth between these roadrunner photos, trying to get oriented with this one. Once I got my bearings, I really like it, but I’m not sure I could have sorted it out without some help. I probably would have come up with “a mailbox with a bird on top and a sculpture of grass next to it.”
On the other hand, nothing about the roadrunner’s any more odd than that scene he’s gazing at. It’s a good thing you documented the snow, because I’ll bet it’s gone by now.
I can see the mailbox and grass sculpture when I erase what I know about the scene and look with fresh eyes. It wouldn’t be any odder of a mailbox than some of the ones I see on our country roads. And you’re right about the snow being gone. It hung on in a few shady spots until the second day of above freezing temperatures but it’s a normal late winter scene out there now. It feels like early spring.
