Feral Cat Fridays: Scamper Of The Goo-Goo-Googly Eyes

One of Shadow’s two children, Scamper was born not long before we attended our trap, neuter, and release training program. In fact, her birth was one of the precipitating events for our entry into TNR. We had no idea Shadow was female until she had kittens.

“You lookin’ at me?”

Scamper’s big, round eyes made her look as if she was always fearful, but she was one of the friendliest members of our feral cat colony. She quietly went about her own business and seemed surprised when other cats (or we humans) paid her any attention. Her reaction when Cody and Callie commandeered the water bowl was typical of her willingness to go along to get along.

“You again?”

Scamper may have been shy, but she had some very close friends. She was a member of The Three Musketeeers, one of the tightest groups of buddies in the colony. If you saw Scamper, it was a good bet that Robin and Duff were not far away.

“OK. I’m getting used to you guys now.”

Scamper had another striking feature in addition to her eyes. Many cats have coats that are near mirror images of themselves, but Scamper’s coat was close to being a perfect mirror image. She even had a helpful stripe down the center of her nose marking the right/left dividing line.

I must say: this left/right dividing line doesn’t seem so worrisome. She is a beauty. You’re right about her eyes. She does seem as though she’s just seen ‘something,’ and isn’t quite sure whether she wants to share the content of the vision.

Speaking of cats, here’s one of my all-time favorite videos: 59 seconds of pure wonderfulness.</a.

That is a great video. We have a cat bed on top of a bedroom dresser that is a favorite of several of our indoor cats, but it isn’t nearly as fancy. I find some of their favorite toys in it occasionally when someone must have been looking for a little extra comfort.
